At Kessingland CofE Primary Academy, we pride ourselves in providing an inclusive and welcoming learning environment for all the children in our care.
As a school with a strong Christian ethos, we are fully committed to a holistic approach to learning and understand, better than most, our duty to provide for the Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural development of pupils whilst promoting the British Values of Democracy, the Rule of Law, Individual Liberty, Respect and Tolerance.
OUR INTEGRATED APPROACH TO SMSC
At Kessingland Church of England Primary Academy, our integrated approach to SMSC furnish pupils with a range of opportunities to develop the attitudes and skills which will enable them to grow into happy young adults with great self-belief and integrity who will make a positive contribution to society.
- Kessingland Church of England Primary Academy provides a broad and rich curriculum which strives to closely match the needs, interests and life goals of the children it serves.
- School Policies including the ‘CARE’ behaviour policy, set clear guidelines as to pupils’ expected standards of conduct and behaviour for learning in and outside lessons.
- Our Core Values provide children with a moral compass as well as with coping mechanisms which will prove useful when they become adults.
- Within school, children are encouraged to develop a ‘Growth Mindset’ and we encourage children and adults to celebrate mistakes.
- There are an array of before and after-school Clubs as well as day and residential trips which reinforce the learning taking place in the classroom and maximise opportunities for pupils to find something they excel at; thus improving self-esteem, raising aspirations and acting as a powerful incentive for pupils to work hard to reach their life goal.
- Whole school events such as “Harvest Festival”, “House Captains’ Election”, “Young Carer Events”, “Safer Internet Day”, “Multi-Faith Day”, “Remembrance Events”, “World Book Day” and “Sports Day” bring the whole school community together and provide a memorable and meaningful context within which pupils can live their school’s values.
- SMSC is fully integrated into our PSHE and RE Curriculum and is delivered through our Collective Worship programme during Collective Worship and within classrooms.
- Pupils are given the chance to gain valuable life skills by taking part in a whole range of volunteering Schemes (School Council, House Captains, Playground Buddies, Librarians and Play Leaders)
- The House System – which pupils and staff have worked collaboratively to develop – enables children to develop a strong sense of belonging as well as form mutually supportive relationship with peers from all ages. This not only enhances their self-confidence but also provides them with extra support on their learning journey.
- The school promotes Democracy and encourages parental feedback at Termly Learning Conferences and through parent perceptions. In addition, Pupil Voice is becoming a strong feature of the school, with an array of opportunities for pupils to influence the decisions that affect them.
- The school has an active school council and election of House Captains provides pupils with first-hand experience of the democratic process.
- Pupils are encouraged to represent their school in a range of local sporting tournaments including: skittleball, rugby, hockey, athletics and football.
- The school supports a range of charities. Over the last couple of years, the school has raised money for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal, Children in Need, NSPCC and for Suffolk Young Carers.
- The school has strong links with the local communities (parents, church and local charities).
